Missed GLP-1 Doses During Wedding Travel: Check Your Product

Current U.S. instructions differ for Wegovy injections, Wegovy tablets and Zepbound. Keep the product, dose history and time zones together.

A delayed flight, misplaced medicine pouch or interrupted morning routine can leave you unsure what to do about a GLP-1 dose. Start with the exact product and formulation on your prescription. Wegovy injections, Wegovy tablets and Zepbound injections have different missed-dose instructions.

Identify the medicine before calculating the timing

Photograph the prescription label before departure. Include the brand, active ingredient, formulation, strength and directions. Save a copy where you can access it without mobile service.

Write down the date and time you last took a dose. Separate that entry from a reminder marked complete by mistake or a scheduled dose you intended to take.

For an injection, identify the device as well. If you are calling about a problem during administration, the pharmacist needs to know which pen, syringe or vial was involved. Keep the packaging available.

The comparison below covers the current U.S. prescribing information for three specific treatments. It does not supply instructions for Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus, compounded preparations or products obtained in another country. Ask for the instructions applicable to your own prescription.

Wegovy injection: count forward to the next scheduled dose

The June 2026 prescribing information says that, after one missed injection, take it as soon as possible if the next scheduled dose is more than two days away. If the next dose is less than two days away, skip the missed injection and resume on the regular weekly day. [1]

The wording uses “more than” and “less than.” If your calculation lands exactly at the two-day boundary, ask the pharmacist to resolve the timing instead of supplying your own interpretation.

For two or more consecutive missed Wegovy injections, this label directs restarting dose escalation at a lower dosage to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions. [1] Contact the prescriber for the dose and schedule. Do not choose a lower strength, divide a dose or resume an old prescription by yourself.

Include any nausea, vomiting, eating difficulties or other symptoms in that conversation. Tell the prescriber why treatment was interrupted and whether you have enough medicine to follow the proposed restart.

Older screenshots may describe a different approach to repeated missed injections. Check the revision date and current directions with your pharmacy before using a saved social-media explanation.

Wegovy tablets: skip the missed daily dose

For a missed Wegovy tablet dose, the June 2026 label says to skip it and take the next dose the following day. [1] The weekly injection calculation above does not apply.

Ask the pharmacist how to handle your daily schedule across the particular time-zone change. Have the departure and arrival times available, including any overnight connection.

Keep the tablet's administration instructions with your travel record. A hotel breakfast time, early airport transfer or new morning medicine can complicate the routine; ask how to arrange these before the trip.

If several daily doses have been missed, or you cannot remember whether you took today's tablet, explain the full history to the pharmacy. Do not adapt the injection restart rule to the tablet or take an extra tablet to make up a forgotten day.

Zepbound: count from the missed scheduled dose

Zepbound's prescribing information says to take a missed dose as soon as possible within four days, or 96 hours, after it was due. If more than four days have passed, skip that dose and take the next on the regular scheduled day. [2]

The label also permits changing the weekly administration day when necessary, provided at least three days, or 72 hours, separate the two doses. [2] Have the pharmacist check both the missed-dose timing and the interval between actual doses when reviewing a proposed change.

Those directions address a missed dose and weekly timing. They do not provide a personalized restart strength after an extended interruption. Contact your prescriber if multiple weekly doses were missed.

Give the clinician your previous strength, the date of the last injection and the reason treatment stopped. Ask which prescription to use next and whether any earlier supply remains appropriate for the plan.

Do not substitute Wegovy's instructions because both medicines are weekly injections. The two labels express their missed-dose windows differently.

An uncertain injection needs a separate conversation

If a device stops during an injection or you think only part of the medicine entered, report what happened. An uncertain amount administered cannot be entered in the calendar as a definitely missed dose.

For the Wegovy pen discussed in its FAQ, Novo Nordisk says to contact a healthcare professional or the manufacturer if the yellow bar does not start moving or stops during injection, and to contact the pharmacy if concerned about receiving the full dose. It asks users to keep the pen and packaging until they have spoken with customer care. [3]

Describe the device and what you observed. Ask what to do with it and whether a replacement or a change to the next scheduled dose is needed. Do not automatically administer another injection.

Similarly, tell the pharmacist if you vomited after a tablet rather than simply reporting a missed dose. Include when it was taken and when vomiting occurred. Ask for product-specific advice before taking anything additional.

If you may have taken an extra dose, contact a healthcare professional or poison service promptly for instructions. Supply the product, strength, amount and time involved rather than waiting for the next scheduled reminder. [1]

Make the travel record precise enough to use

Use separate entries for the home schedule and any confirmed travel schedule. Write the time zone beside each time. A phone switching to local time should not be the only record of when a dose was taken.

Ask the pharmacist to review the dates for the outward flight, wedding, return flight and next routine dose together. If your plans include crossing the international date line, show the full itinerary.

Agree on who records administration if a partner helps with reminders. Mark a dose taken only after it has been administered, and keep that entry distinct from an alarm being dismissed.

Add the pharmacy and prescriber's contact details, their opening hours in your destination's time zone and the route for advice when the usual office is closed.

If the interruption involved a lost supply or uncertain storage conditions, address that before using the remaining medicine. The medicine travel guide covers packing and storage questions to take to the pharmacy.

Discuss a proposed pause before the wedding

If you are considering skipping treatment for a reception, travel day or procedure, tell your prescriber what you are trying to manage. A missed-dose instruction should not become a self-designed pause and restart schedule.

For sedation or anesthesia, have the prescribing and procedure teams coordinate the plan. The procedure planning article explains the questions that need that joint review.

For treatment after the honeymoon, book an appointment before the supply runs out. The maintenance review guide can help organize that discussion.

Ask the clinician to document the next dose, strength, date and follow-up arrangements. Read the instructions back if any part is unclear, then update your reminders to match.
