You found the one. Then the stylist asked which size to order, and you hesitated, because your measurements have been changing since you started your GLP-1. That pause is completely normal, and bridal shops are getting used to it. With the right questions, you can order with confidence and plan your fittings so the dress feels wonderful on the day you wear it.
Bridal shops are making room for changing sizes
In May 2026, David's Bridal announced a Fit Guarantee, starting May 12, that lets brides hold their dress until right before the event and guarantees the dress fits properly. It covers dresses bought in store or online for brides, mothers of the bride and bridesmaids. The company told ABC News that at the end of the previous year it saw a 25% increase in rush orders and a 20% increase in brides buying dresses within eight weeks of their wedding. [1]
Policies differ from shop to shop, so ask yours directly what flexibility it offers, and get the answer in writing with your order.
Why your measurements can keep changing for months
The dose schedules alone run for months. The Wegovy label starts at 0.25 mg once weekly and steps up every four weeks, reaching the maintenance dose in week 17. [2] The Zepbound label starts at 2.5 mg once weekly for four weeks, then increases in 2.5 mg steps after at least four weeks on each dose until the maintenance dose. [3]
Since many brides order a gown months before the wedding, the order date, the first fitting and the final fitting can all fall while your body is still adjusting. Nobody can promise you a size on a future date, and you do not have to. A good plan expects some change.
Questions to ask before you order
- How much can this design be taken in or let out?
- Which changes affect the lace, beading, cups or overall proportions?
- What happens if my bust and waist change by different amounts?
- What is the latest date for a construction change, and what is the latest date for small adjustments?
- How many fittings does the quote include, and what does an extra one cost?
You do not have to name your medication to ask any of these. If someone starts suggesting diets or doses, gently bring the conversation back to the dress. That is where their expertise lives.
Make every fitting a movement test
Wear the shoes and undergarments your seamstress asks for. Then move: sit down, walk, turn, reach up as if for a hug, try stairs if your venue has them, and check how the dress works when you use the bathroom. A dress that looks perfect while you stand still should also feel good through dinner and dancing.
Ask for clear instructions for the bustle and closure, and have the person who will dress you on the wedding morning watch or record a demonstration if the studio allows it. Comfort is part of fit. If something pinches or makes it hard to breathe, say so during the appointment, when there is still time to adjust it.
Keep your dose plan and your dress plan separate
Dose schedules are set by your prescriber for your health and how well you tolerate each step. The Wegovy label, for example, says that if a dose is not tolerated during escalation, a prescriber may consider delaying the next increase for four weeks. [2] That is a medical decision, and it should never be made to hit a fitting date.
What helps is giving your prescriber your calendar: the wedding date, fitting dates, travel, and any long stretches on the day without easy access to food or a bathroom. Ask what to do if side effects show up close to the wedding, and who to contact.
With the dress plan in writing and your fittings used as rehearsals, the final fitting becomes the fun one: the day you see it all come together and know it will feel as good as it looks.
